Summary/ Objective
East Side House Settlement (ESH) is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families and the communities. ESH’s Adult Services programs align with our mission by providing high quality adult programs and workforce development services within community centers.
Adult Services consist of Jobs Plus (JP), Post-Secondary Pathways Program (PSP), Older Adult Services and all workforce related Programming at ESH. Featuring training, education, career advancement services, financial empowerment services and community building programming, employment exploration and placement.
Under the supervision of the Director of PSP, Education Services Manager and Employment Services Manager, the PSP Student Advisor plays a key role in the PSP staff inter-disciplinary team whose purpose is to provide comprehensive educational and social emotional supports that enable students to meet their learning, educational and employment goals. A primary focus for the Advisor is to support our PSP participants throughout their process of choosing a post-secondary track. The Student Advisor will communicate effectively with the Director of PSP and Managers to coordinate student intake, case management and all other wrap around services needed for students, who are enrolled in GED/ALE, PSP Academy, and various other PSP service areas.

- Openness and willingness to work in innovative program, taking a new approach to job placement services.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Essential duties include meeting with students to assure their persistence in instructional classes by identifying Barriers to Education and Employment and providing ample community resources to address those identified barriers.
- Manage a caseload of approximately 50-100 students per year; divided by cohorts.
- Maintain ongoing contact with students on caseload at all phases of the PSP program to track progress.
- Conduct daily attendance outreach and refer students to support services as needed.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Instructors and Career Development Specialists to ensure students career goals are met.
- Document case notes on all case management activities maintain data entry into funder and organizational databases
- Conduct one-on-one and small group counseling sessions with students that support their academic, career and personal goals.
- For those participants seeking a NYS High School Equivalency diploma, help participants understand the multiple pathways to the NYS High School Equivalency diploma and access “next step” services, instruction, training, and apprenticeship programming.
- Help students complete the Individual Student Record Form (ISRF), register each student on JobZone, and register students planning to take the GED in the GED Management System
- Help participants access activities and services provided throughout the local workforce development system, including programs and services that are provided through Career Centers and NYS Department of Labor, ACCES-VR, the NYS Commission for the Blind, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funded through the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team with Instructors, Career Development Specialists, and Education and Employment Services Managers in providing onsite services.
- Build and maintain Google shared database with case load of students to track student progress through career and education goal plans.
- Participate in relevant departmental meetings, trainings, case conferences, workshops and other on/off site events. Including but not limited to NYSED training provided through the RAEN annually,
- Assist the program management staff in recruiting, interviewing, and maintaining student records for each cohort of PSP
- Consult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance using a biweekly assessment.
- Refer students to academic and support services as needed.
- Facilitate workshops on workforce readiness and basic life skills
- Participate in special yearly student-based projects.
- Conduct outreach to students for social-emotional support and academic support.
- Provide weekly updates or new developments to program director from conversations with students/families.
- Start to identify students interested in participating in internships next summer/fall
- Touch base with internship partners in regard to internship changes and updates in summer/fall

Education & Experience Requirements
- B.A/ B.S.W. with at least two years’ experience with youth-related work.
- Experience capturing and maintaining data.
- Experience working with community served by East Side House Settlement.
- Strong computer skills and technological experience including Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, etc.) Google Suite (Google Classroom, Docs, and Sheets) and similar programs
- COVID- 19 Vaccine - As a recipient of Federal, State, and local funds, all staff are expected to be fully vaccinated or able to obtain vaccination before their start date.

Work Environment
Corporate casual. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Travel
Moderate travel is expected for this position.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This role is a full-time position (35 hours) expected to generally work through Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, and 11:00am to 7:00pm some days. Some weekends and evenings may be required. Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESH's needs.
