The Undergraduate International Studies Program (UISP) at The Ohio State University invites applications for one (1) lecturer position, to teach one 3-credit course, in person, in Session 1 of the Summer semester (4-week, May 5-June 30). The course is INTERNATIONAL STUDIES 3701, Homeland Security. This undergraduate course is a mainstay of our Security & Intelligence, and International Relations and Diplomacy specializations. Students are likely to be International Studies majors or minors or majors in other Arts & Sciences departments with interests in national security.
We seek an instructor who can offer students a comprehensive overview of U.S. homeland security, and introduce them to the historic, current and emerging threats to strategic interests in the U.S. homeland, with particular emphasis on domestic and foreign terrorism. Students should also be introduced to the organizations, laws, strategies, plans, programs and technologies that exist or are being developed to deal with current and future homeland-security challenges. The course should also prepare students to systematically, objectively and rigorously assess various homeland-security problems and issues, and to develop and effectively communicate appropriate recommendations to responsible decision makers. Finally, the instructor should facilitate students’ understanding of government and non-government career opportunities in the field of homeland security.
The instructor is expected to teach fully in-person and be available either in-person or online for weekly office hours. Pay for this course is $7,850. There is no language requirement for the position other than English.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the International Studies program, have professional work experience in a security-related field, and have demonstrated aptitude and effectiveness in undergraduate-level instruction.
