Manager, Championship Events
Reports to: Director, Championship Events
Summary:
This is a full-time position that is visible to our membership. This person will be positive, smart, fast paced, have a professional demeanor, desires to be innovative and demands an array of job responsibilities. The NAIA exists to advance character-driven intercollegiate athletics, and our passion is leadership development balanced with sports advancement. You will be expected to:
• represent a national organization of 250 colleges and universities in front of several different constituency groups
• be a primary contact related to varied duties and initiatives of the championships department
• have a high degree of optimism focused on the people in the work environment and with our membership
• be challenged by varied duties and performance at a high level
• be a self-starter with strong organizational experience
• be a liaison to various NAIA coaching bodies
• administrate assigned national championships
• manage department staff
• travel 70 to 80 days per year
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• work with management to help organize and supervise some of our twenty-three national championships and four emerging sports events
• work with the associate directors to assist in meeting budget requirements for each assigned championship event and its coaches association
• work with associate director and assist in identifying new hosts sites to championship department
• serve as a liaison to NAIA teams, host city and officials at championship events
• serve as liaison to appropriate coaching bodies and possibly other councils, committees, and associations as assigned
• assist in communications to NAIA members regarding championships and related matters
• develop, update and distribute tournament information in consultation with the host for assigned championships
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Marketing or Communication.
• 1 – 2 years of experience with directing events; sport related events preferred
• knowledge of the NAIA and/or intercollegiate athletics
• experience with managing multiple tasks within pre-determined deadlines
• experience relating with various groups of people, especially coaches, and/or educators
• ability to demonstrate strong public speaking capabilities
• strong written and oral communication and be proficient with Microsoft Office
• experience with directing events and/or sporting leagues helpful
