Executive Director- NALA Adult Literacy
The Executive Director is a full-time exempt salaried position responsible for overseeing tutors and students, supervising daily office operations, community relations, fund development, literacy awareness and record keeping. In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for fulfilling requirements as head of an agency of United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas, and participating in the leadership of the One Joplin Education and Literacy Team.
Reporting to the NALA Adult Literacy Board of Directors, the Executive Director works closely with the Program Coordinator, NALA Adult Literacy Board, all key staff and volunteers, and collaborative agencies to implement the programs adopted to advance the mission of NALA Adult Literacy.
The Executive Director oversees marketing, fundraising, program development, HR management and accounting/payroll. The Executive Director acts as a liaison between NALA Adult Literacy and external stakeholders, develops and maintains relationships with other nonprofit leaders, and looks for opportunities to partner with other organizations to meet literacy needs. The Executive Director also works personally with community leaders, cultivating long- term strategic partnerships and donor relationships to increase the organization's effectiveness serving literacy needs.
Preferred:
Leadership experience in the field of adult education.
Familiarity with grant writing process.
Volunteer management.
Required:
College Degree, Nonprofit experience.
Basic budget and/or financial management experience.

The Joplin Neighborhood Adult Literacy Action, also known as Joplin NALA Read, is a non-profit 501(c)3 literacy council organization that was founded in 1981. Our mission is to provide tuition- free programs to improve the self-sufficiency of families by supporting adult learners in their efforts to increase skills – efforts that give them access to a better life and make a positive impact on our community.
