At Nall Hills Animal Hospital, we are a busy, high-energy, privately-owned, cat and dog veterinary clinic dedicated to providing exceptional care to pets in our community. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our team on a full-time or part-time basis. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinarians in providing top-quality care to our patients. Our top candidate should have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a genuine love for animals. We are seeking someone that has completed at least one full year of experience in a veterinary assistant or technician role at a small animal veterinary clinic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians during exams, procedures, and surgeries.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, medical instruments, and supplies.
- Restrain animals safely and calmly (though we are not fear free certified, we value and try to follow the methods where we can) during exams and treatments.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarians.
- Perform routine lab work, such as urinalysis and blood tests.
- Assist with client education on pet care, nutrition, and treatments.
- Monitor the health and behavior of patients during hospitalization.
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive experience for pet owners.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with updating medical histories.
- Keep the hospital clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience of at least one year as a veterinary assistant or technician is required.
- Strong interest in animal care and handling.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills with both clients and team members.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Must be comfortable with handling dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs, and team-lift up to 130lbs.
- Ability to work on your feet for multiple hours at a time, moving fairly constantly.
- Flexibility to work any of our business hours, including Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:30pm, and Saturdays 7:45am-12:00pm. (Weekends are typically rotated, and we do have to stay past 5:30pm on occasion.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with veterinary software (Shepherd is a plus).
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and animal behavior.
- Ability to converse with varied types of individuals in a professional and polite manner.
