Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Chief Court Clerk and Chief Judge, prepares and maintains all case flies within the following areas: Criminal, Civil, Domestic, Juvenile, Child welfare, Probate and Traffic. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED and three years’ clerical experience including one-year experience in a courtroom setting or legal clerical related field. Associated Degree and familiarity with Indian Law preferred. Must obtain Court Clerk certification within one year of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s license. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of traditional form of government and Tribal customs and traditions. Functions and structure of Nambe Pueblo and the Tribe’s judicial system. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Knowledge of court proceedings including Indian Civil Rights Act, Indian Child Welfare Act and other applicable laws, Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, basic arithmetic and standard record keeping practices.
Skills in operating business computers and office machines, including a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint as well as Full court software.
Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports, communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing. Handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels. Work as a team member in a structured working environment. Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment and follow oral and written instructions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains records of all court proceedings, to include identification of the title and nature of the case, the names of the parties, the substance of the complaint, the names and addresses of all witnesses, the date of hearings and trials, all court and jury rulings, findings, orders and judgments and any other facts of circumstances designated by the Court. Review Legal documentation for accuracy and completeness and enter legal documents into automated or manual case management system. Answer incoming telephone calls, determine purpose of call and forward calls to appropriate personnel or department, ensuring professional telephone etiquette. Screen incoming calls and correspondence; exercise judgment and responds accordingly. Welcomes all visitors and determines nature of business, and announces visitors to appropriate personnel, maintaining professional and courteous demeanor. Notifies all parties or record regarding continuances, cancellations, rescheduling and other activities of the Court. Maintains all pleadings, documents and other materials filed with the Court. Maintains all evidentiary materials, transcripts and records of testimony filed with the Court. Collect and accounts for fines, fees, costs, bonds and other monies and properties taken into custody of the Court. Assists in the use of correct forms complaints, petitions, answers, motions and other pleadings and documents for Court proceedings while NEVER giving advice on questions of law, or appearing or acting on behalf of any other person in any court proceeding. May administer oaths and witness’s execution of documents, maintains supplies of blank forms to be prescribed by the Court for use by all persons having business before the Court. Provides documents in Court files to other persons upon request and upon receipt of a charge for the same to cover the cost of such service. Ensures no copies of court documents or materials shall be provided from files which are kept confidential or unavailable for public inspection. Provides security for all files, documents and materials filed with or in the custody of the Court and insures that they are not removed from the files of the Court. Maintains cleanliness of building and courtroom. Maintains and ensures, strict confidentiality of all information. Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required and performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office and courtroom setting with a moderate noise level appropriate work attire is required. Evening, on call and weekend work may be required.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
