What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Outreach Coordinator position at NAMI Charleston Area (SC)?
Description:
Responsible for administrative support work, scheduling Outreach events and ongoing Support Groups, to include Volunteer Coordination of such events.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to info@namicharlestonarea.org emails, and/or forward to appropriate persons, within 48 hours of receipt.
- Answer NAMI Charleston Area phone (Google Voice) and all voicemails, within 48 hours of receipt.
- Check the NAMI Charleston P.O. Box twice a month, preferably every 2 weeks.
- Coordinate meetings with non-profit organizations, businesses, and other mental health agencies to promote programs; at least four meetings a month, as determined by the Executive Director.
- Attending community events for NAMI Charleston, as requested by community partners. The attendance can be through the use of trained volunteers.
- Contact all Volunteer Candidates that expressed an interest in serving for NAMI Charleston.
- Maintain an ongoing list of available NAMI Training available though SC NAMI and surrounding States as needed to support Volunteer Training for our Outreach Programs.
- Must be willing to train as a Support Group Facilitator.
- Must be willing to support the Fundraiser Coordinator in all major projects as time allows.
- Be a part of the Walk Committee and coordinate vendors for the annual NAMIWalk.
- Other responsibilities may be determined by the Board of Directors of NAMI Charleston Area.

- Exhibits good judgment, flexibility, and adaptability. Takes the initiative to reach out to other team members to obtain feedback.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office software and Google platforms, or ability to quickly learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Living with a mental health condition in recovery and/or is a loved one of someone living with a mental health condition.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or two years of experience in a relevant role.
- Experience working in the mental health field.
- Maintains integrity of programs and NAMI policies and procedures, including maintaining membership in NAMI.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for NAMI Charleston Area’s mission
- Ability to travel to all counties serviced (Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley) when needed.
- Flexibility in schedule may include early mornings, evenings/nights and/or weekends.
Working conditions/hours:
- Work hours are flexible from home Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. There is an office available. There are occasional evening meetings and some Saturday work for community events and NAMIWalks Charleston preparation.
- Mileage reimbursement is 67 cents per mile per 2024 IRS Standard Mileage Rates.
- A laptop and printer can be provided upon request.
- There are no benefits for this position including paid time off or paid sick leave.
- Mental health time/days can be requested by the employee and approved as per the discretion of the Executive Director.
