Job Overview
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Connecticut’s mission is to provide support, education, and advocacy for all people in Connecticut affected by mental health conditions. Job Purpose
The Urban Outreach and Program Development Coordinator is responsible for initiating community outreach and program initiatives that support diverse communities in historically under-served urban areas, including Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, New Britain, and Stamford.
This position works closely with the NAMI Connecticut Affiliate Relations Manager and the Education Program Director to build organizational capacity in the field and to offer NAMI Connecticut support groups and education programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Works with community partners to assess the needs and determine the ability to deliver services to targeted populations, including Black / African Ancestry and Spanish-speaking communities.
- Plans, directs, or coordinates community conversations about mental health and available resources from NAMI Connecticut.
- Coordinates and implements community events, conversations, and educational presentations to increase awareness of mental health issues.
- Represents NAMI Connecticut through public speaking in all venues including : live and recorded webinars, social media platforms, television and radio, and print media.
- Assists in outreach, development, and volunteer recruitment for delivery of NAMI’s Sharing Hope and Compartiendo Esperanza programs and other NAMI signature programs.
- Represents NAMI Connecticut by sitting on local committees in targeted urban areas relating to community mental health services.
- Works with NAMI Connecticut’s Affiliate Relations Manager to develop emerging NAMI Affiliates in targeted areas.
- Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects with targeted populations as needed or directed by the Executive Director.
