Description: Type: Full-Time Reports to: Clinical Support Manager Office Location: 224 W Hill St Suite 410, Chicago, IL; required in-office minimum of 3 days per week (hybrid work policy subject to change) Background: Guided by the experiences of those living with mental health conditions and rooted in equity, NAMI Chicago educates to fight stigma and discrimination, fiercely advocates for our community, and shares hope, connection and expertise with people on their mental health journey. NAMI Chicago seeks to fill gaps in Chicago's mental health system, with an intentional emphasis on serving underrepresented populations and breaking down barriers to care. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Provide telephonic support, education, information, and referrals to individuals and families experiencing mental health crisis and/or severe mental illness. Provide advocacy support within healthcare settings and in legal and involuntary treatment systems. Engage in de-escalation, safety planning, risk assessment, and emotional support for those experiencing an active crisis. Partner with healthcare providers across Chicagoland to coordinate care and advocate for the needs of those we encounter and ensure appropriate connection to needed services. Receive referrals from and partner with the Chicago Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team, diverting individuals experiencing a mental health crisis from further encounters with crisis systems. Exemplify NAMI Chicago’s team approach by participating in case review, supporting coworkers, and attending scheduled trainings. Maintain intake notes, agency resource records, and documentation using NAMI Chicago’s database system. Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Support Manager and other members of the leadership team. Requirements: Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates ability to serve underrepresented and vulnerable populations, including social and racial/ethnic minorities as well as those living with mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with those in crisis, their families, healthcare partners, and other stakeholders. Proven record of success working in a diverse environment that includes people of different identities, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender and physical/mental ability. Exhibits sensitivity and empathy regarding human service issues and projects a non-judgmental attitude towards those requiring assistance. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or other related fields. Knowledge of the first responder community. Two years or more experience working with people living with mental illness in a community mental health agency, hospital, or other setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and database management. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Welcomed Qualifications: Master’s degree, LCSW, or LCPC strongly preferred.
