What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Manager - Mental Health Educator and Trainer position at NAMI?
NAMI Indiana is a state chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We work to provide support, education, and advocacy to people and families impacted by mental illness.
Our organization is seeking a program manager who will build and launch a statewide professional development program for care providers of older adults living with serious mental illness. The goals of this new program are to increase knowledge of mental illnesses in older adults, build competence with de-escalation, and to connect people with resources. This program is part of a two year grant with the state division of mental health.
Position Description
- Communicates with community members, professional groups, hospital systems, and other stakeholders about NAMI Indiana provider training.
- Promotes NAMI Indiana provider training to Area Agency on Aging organizations and Residential Care Assistance Providers.
- Teach and expand NAMI Indiana’s provider training throughout the state by educating stakeholders, recruiting/screening new volunteers, and building relationships with interested agencies.
- Oversees NAMI Indiana provider training contracts
- Manages and reports program metrics and data management
- Oversees development of provider training curriculum in partnership with the state division of mental health
- Provide NAMI Indiana program curriculum to various groups
- Train volunteers to provide the NAMI Indiana program curriculum
- Represents NAMI Indiana at external meetings and conferences to increase awareness of NAMI programs and availability around the state (as both exhibitor and attendee)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, public health, social work, or similar
- 2-3 years of program management, curriculum development, health promotion - especially around mental health
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and aptitude to be a self-starter
- Passionate and experienced in public speaking, creating, and leading training programs
- Knowledgeable of mental health terms, treatments, providers, and recovery
- The propensity to learn and maintain knowledge of current development in the mental health field and community
- Demonstrate strong professional respect for all people, including individuals affected by mental health conditions
- Must be passionate about creating resources to enhance recovery
- Willing to complete a background screening and skills assessment
- Has valid driver’s licenses and can provide their own transportation to travel around the state as needed (~25%) and possible occasional travel out of state.
Preferences
- Familiarity with NAMI mission and programs and participation in one or more NAMI education programs or support groups
- Familiar with Indiana’s mental health system
- Individuals who can speak to and understand the challenges of mental illness
This position has a salary of $48,000. NAMI Indiana full-time employee benefits include health, dental, and vision, accountable PTO and holiday schedule, employee assistance program, and 401k with match.
