JOB SUMMARY: The Design Engineer will assist in maintaining and troubleshooting issues with our automated and semi-automated equipment. Make improvements to equipment to insure we efficiently meet our production, quality, and safety requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Plan and coordinate special projects, including design and fabrication of production equipment (automated and semi-automated assembly and secondary machines, etc.), material selection and tooling requirements.
2. Evaluate existing mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for improved yield and throughput.
3. Develop mechanical/electromechanical fixtures and machines by studying customer requirements.
4. Collaborate with Quality and Process Engineers, and other departments to obtain necessary requirements for writing detailed scopes for the procurement of new equipment.
5. Assures system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
6. Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special services.
7. Estimate tooling cost from design through fabrication.
8. Coordinate with machine vendor through concept, design, fabrication, runoff, and setup of equipment.
9. Maintain adherence to Company policies and procedures, safety and environmental standards, and good housekeeping practices.
10. Assist maintenance with troubleshooting and repairing production equipment.
11. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience and work preferable but not required.
2. Advanced 3D Design capability preferably Autodesk Inventor 2024 with a minimum of 8 years’ experience.
3. Designing and maintaining automated assembly machines with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. (Swanson, Bodine, or similar carousel type assembly machines)
4. Knowledge of hydraulics systems.
5. Knowledge of pneumatics systems.
6. Ability to interpret all types of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic drawings.
7. Ability to follow projects through to completion.
8. Ability to follow PLC code.
9. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
10. Excellent organizational and computer skills.
11. Good interpersonal skills.
12. Self-starter, ability to work independently to meet specified deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Must submit to and pass a drug test pursuant to Company Drug-Free Workplace Policy which includes random testing.
2. Must have good vision. (may be corrected)
3. Must have no known hearing loss. (may be corrected)
4. Must be able to stand/walk/sit for prolonged periods of time.
5. Must be able to travel.
6. Must have stamina to work more than the scheduled workday when needed, including nights and weekends.
7. Must be physically present at work during business hours.
