Job Summary
The Lead Process Engineer is responsible for leading the Process Engineers to be the NDS Mesa subject matter experts in energetic material processing. The Lead implements strategic direction from the Process Engineering Manager and supports the Manager in development of strategy and execution. The Lead will be instrumental in providing technical expertise in manufacturing composite energetic propellants to the Process Engineers and Manufacturing Operations personnel. This role provides an effective interface for the day-to-day Process Engineering efforts and oversees short and long term projects. The Lead is responsible for developing, leading and executing IR&D and customer funded programs that develop or improve the manufacturing of composite energetic propellants. In addition, the Lead is responsible in providing mentorship and industry technical expertise to junior engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Apply engineering principles to safely process propellants, pyrotechnics, and/or explosives for product development or improvement to meet program requirements.
• Possess a high level of working knowledge of Nammo operating systems and procedures including CPMES, CP, Teamcenter, and tooling control.
• Act as the technical authority and champion technical growth for the Process Engineering team with a specific focus on process improvement and lean manufacturing of composite energetics.
• Conducts detailed planning and participates in providing labor estimate information on new and repeat work activity.
• Ensures jobs are carried out to or above customer expectations and quality standards.
• Ensure all work activity for Process Engineering is documented per company procedures, retained as required, and available for any current work activity.
• Act as a change agent; drive change and influence others with implied authority and assertiveness within the organization to make sustainable and measurable process improvements.
• Work with support team to troubleshoot and resolve production and engineering issues.
• Author and oversee the production documentation including work instructions, SOP, PHA, PFMEA, PM, process flow diagrams, and production layouts.
Job Qualifications:
• BS/MS in Engineering discipline or a related field.
• 3 years experience with propellants, pyrotechnics and/or explosives in manufacturing preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience in process and/or manufacturing engineering.
• Minimum 2 years experience leading people preferred.
• Strong knowledge of industry manufacturing processes and requirements. Preferred composite propellants and propellant-loaded devices.
• Ability to provide accurate direction to others and represent the management team within the company at a high level of professionalism.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Demonstrated experience in problem solving and process improvement methodologies.
• Ability to write reports and correspondence clearly and accurately.
• Ability to mentor and train junior engineers.
• Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations
