POSITION: Skilled Maintenance – Carpenter

REPORTS TO: Maintenance and Grounds Manager

SUMMARY: To ensure and support the timely completion of all maintenance projects.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists in the repair and/or installation of various items, systems and/or components as may be required for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition; which involves work as a Carpenter at any building or structure.
  • Assists other maintenance personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities when approved by the Manager.
  • Assists with the moving and set up of any chairs, tables, and stages as needed for school programs throughout the year.
  • Installs system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility components as may be required for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
  • Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment, in safe operating condition and to guard against breakage, theft, or loss.
  • Maintain materials and inventory required for projects.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Operate all maintenance equipment in a safe and lawful manner.
  • Work within and around the schedules of others to maintain productivity.
  • Creates plans and includes permits as needed, for the construction of items such as: cabinets, shelves, walls, floors, doorframes, bookcases, and the remodeling of offices and/or classrooms.
  • Responsible for inspecting and replacing damaged frameworks or other structures and fixtures
  • Be on-call and available for maintenance emergencies
  • Ensure that all federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy pertaining to plant maintenance and operation, fire, safety, and the environment are followed
  • Comply with all federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy pertaining to the storage and disposal of recyclables, trash, waste, and debris
  • Estimate the cost of repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead as well as maintaining materials and inventory required for these projects
  • Remain on school premises for entire shift unless required to leave for work-related errands or meetings
  • Assist with the set-up and coordination of school and public use of facilities
  • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at inservices
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise
  • Represent the school district in a positive manner
  • Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education And/Or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Three to five years of related experience required
  • Appropriate licensure required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Hold a current and valid Idaho Motor Vehicle License with an excellent driving record
  • Knowledge in framing, sheetrock, taping and mudding, and painting.
  • Ability to draw plans and build such items as cabinets, shelves, walls, bookcases, and remodeling of offices.
  • Ability to perform long periods of standing; walking; climbing; bending; stooping; kneeling; bending and twisting at the neck and trunk; moving of furniture; pushing/pulling items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines; frequent lifting of objects weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally move objects weighing up to ninety pounds; and climbing ladders
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, to reach above the head and reach forward, to grasp tools

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret governmental regulations and legal documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or the general public.

Problem Solving Skills

Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.

PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS: Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to conduct basic math functions.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Other Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing (Microsoft Office) and spreadsheets (Excel).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit; walk and stand and reach with hands and arms; regularly lift and carry 60 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 90 pounds. SALARY: According to the Maintenance salary schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 256 day calendar assignment.
