Position Title: Electronics Technology/Engineering/Robotics

Reports To: CTE Administrator and School Principal

SUMMARY: To teach and coordinate various electronic technology, engineering, and robotics fields of study to students with an emphasis on Electronic Technology/Mechatronics. This includes classroom and laboratory teaching, course planning and improvement, continuous program review, ensuring effective utilization of resources including supplies, and supervision of students during field experiences. To provide students with a daily and ongoing instructional program that will provide them with the best possible academic knowledge and skills. Assess and encourage student progress; manage an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement; promote academic, social, and citizenship development through leadership and classroom instruction and successful integration of program assigned Career & Technical Student Organization.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in electronics/mechatronics technology, engineering design process, 3D modeling, microcontrollers such as Arduino, and robotics.
  • Be responsible for maintaining and improving an engineering design lab with a focus on electronics technology and robotics.
  • Be innovative and resourceful in acquiring tools, equipment, developing instructions and learning activities that give students hands-on real-world experiences in engineering and mechatronics.
  • Be an example of lifelong learning demonstrates to students and associates the importance of learning skills and technology to grow the profession for students and his/herself.
  • Advise a career-technical student organization for the development of industry recognized technical skills along with teaching and enhancing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Model enthusiasm for electronics technology/engineering/robotics that demonstrates current innovations in the industry, including competition within the global economy.
  • Provide safety instruction to prevent job related accidents.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the classroom and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Prepare students academically for district, state, and federal testing as well as Technical Skills Assessment.
  • Establish and maintain industry and post-secondary connections to promote/encourage students’ participation in continuing education opportunities.
  • Identify, select, and purchase equipment and supplies necessary to support classroom instruction within budget constraints.
  • Meet the reporting requirements of the Nampa School District and the Idaho Career and Technical Education Division.
  • Assist with and maintain active Technical Advisory Committees and hold required meetings to improve the electronics technology/engineering/robotics programs.
  • Set and maintain standards for student behavior that establish a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Develop job shadow and intern opportunities for students.
  • Assess students on a regular basis and provide feedback to enable them and their parents to monitor their progress.
  • Implement CTE and Idaho Core Standards, as well as the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives, in lesson plans, classroom instruction, unit planning, and assessments.
  • Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Attend IEP meetings and collaborate with special education teachers.
  • Attending workshops and conferences that build professional capacity.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules.
  • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications.
  • Attend all district/staff professional development as well as meet all building/CTE homework requirements.
  • Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

  • Idaho Teacher Certification in Secondary Education with an endorsement in Engineering or an occupational specialist in Electronics Technology, or Pre-Engineering Technology or the ability to qualify for Limited Occupational Certification.If qualified for a Limited Occupational Specialist Certificate, complete certification within three years as required by Idaho CTE.
  • Standard Secondary Technology Education Degree or Engineering Endorsement and/or qualified candidate for occupational specialist certification.
  • Five years’ work experience within the industry.
  • Knowledge in mechatronics, engineering, and robotics.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret governmental regulations and legal documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or the general public. Ability to communicate in English and Spanish is preferred.

PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS: Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.

PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS: Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to conduct basic math functions, as well as manipulate formulas in spreadsheets.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing (Microsoft Office), spreadsheets (Excel), and presentation software.
