Job Description
The Project Engineer is responsible for identifying, defining, planning and verifying the required scope of work for the Red Dog Projects Group. The role requires specific engineering knowledge; including steel building design, electrical, mechanical, piping and control systems. Reporting to the engineering manager, the Project Engineer will serve as a supporting resource for project activities during engineering, construction and commissioning functions. This role will support the projects team by coordinating and collecting the engineering, scheduling and cost estimating documentation for planned projects.
Responsibilities

- Responsible to ensure that project decisions are engineering/planning based and coordinated with the owner’s team.
- Responsible for planning and using the project implementation tools and systems.
- Responsible for coordinating technical reviews of project deliverables with integrated team.
- Ensure that project deliverables meet schedule requirements and are of the quality to meet project objectives.
- Manage the technical interface between project teams.
- Ensure adoption of standards and procedures for the project.
- Manage the technical input to non-engineering disciplines such as procurement.
- Review design drawings for completeness and constructability, follow markup and as-build processes.
- Provide technical interpretation of design documents in support of construction managers, superintendents and contractors, and provide specific expertise for problem-solving activities.
- Responsible for documenting lessons learnt from actual project workflow, to allow improvement of company policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable of the applicable codes and standards for the assigned projects.
- Administrative duties appropriate and necessary for the smooth implementation of the job role.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent is desired.
- Minimum five (5) years of project/engineering experience in project management roles on major infrastructure, mining and/or process plant project implementation is required.
- Previous construction and field experience.
- Five (5) years project experience as an owner’s team representative or as an EPCM contractor.
- Training and experience in project management systems and an understanding of multiple phases of project execution and the stage gate process. Have a good understanding and experience in Project controls, scope management and quality management.
- Understanding the concepts of "fit for purpose" and "value engineering".
- Able to prioritize activities and outcomes to support the achievement of project key performance indicators.
- Strong critical and conceptual thinking skills for use in evaluating and developing proposed projects.
- Able to coordinate work efforts of different groups (including consultants). Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build strong relationships across teams. Involves people in decisions that will impact their work and listens to other perspectives.
- Effectively plans work in areas of responsibility. Motivated self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision and manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills in the area of overall project delivery.
- Uses variety of communication tools and skills to share and gather information, is courageous in communicating and embraces and enhances a culture of communication. Experience creating and making technical presentations and proven capabilities in writing reports.
- Seeks to continually learn and grow; is self-aware and is open to feedback from others.
- Budgeting and resource management and planning experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
