Summary
This position carries out those activities required to maintain and correct damage and make repairs to physical buildings, structures, and facilities as well maintenance, and repair of machinery, equipment, and cleaning equipment of assigned facilities. Additionally, this person will do a variety of work involving equipment use such as scissor lifts and necessitate regularly working from ladders and may also be responsible for some minor electrical repair work.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Maintain current electrician's license or certificate of fitness to meet state/municipal regulations.Carries out the additional duties of all around facilities maintenance worker, some other duties and responsibilities this position may require are as follows:
- Repairs damage to walls and flooring
- Repairs door, locks and exit hardware
- Minor plumbing Repairs
- Repairs conveyor belts and systems
- Drywall installation/repairs, painting
- Carpet installation/repair.
- Moving equipment/furniture when required
- Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
- Regular day shift, M-F but position may involve on call, night, weekend work or emergency call outs on an as needed basis.
- Escorts and/or assist other subcontractors/facilities techs, regardless of skill set/trade, to include but not limited to any other subcontractor working in our facilities.
- This position may require approximately 15% travel out of Honolulu area to other island locations, however, depending on client needs/requests, technicians could be required to travel more often. I
- In the event of an emergency, it may be required to travel within hours of client request to any site throughout the State of Hawaii.
- Subject to after-hours emergency call in.
- Must be able to work well with others as directed and be a team player.
- Able to work independently and prioritize workload.
- Must be able and have some experience to assume a supervisory role and/or job site lead technician.
- This position is responsible for the supervision of staff as needed.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 5 years of directly related facilities and/or building maintenance experience with electrical experience.
- State of Hawaii electricians’ license/certificate of fitness.
- Valid Driver's License with 3 yrs. clean driving record to be qualified to drive under the NMS insurance company
- Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoor/Outdoor – occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions; requires work to be done both inside and outside.
Noise level: noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: Employee may travel up to 15% of the time to remote locations.
