Job Description
Mount Edgecumbe High School, a state-operated boarding school with a rich history of serving students, is seeking a dedicated and observant Night Watch Person to ensure the safety and security of our campus during the overnight hours. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining a secure environment for our students, staff, and facilities. This position demands a proactive individual with keen attention to detail and a strong commitment to upholding a safe and respectful community.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough and regular foot patrols of all school buildings (including dormitories, classrooms, gymnasium, and administrative areas) and grounds to deter unauthorized access, vandalism, and other security breaches.
- Vigilantly monitor surveillance systems and alarm panels, responding promptly and appropriately to any alerts, unusual activity, or suspicious individuals.
- Maintain a meticulous and accurate log of all patrols conducted, any incidents observed, and any maintenance or safety concerns identified during the shift.
- Verify the security of all access points, including doors, windows, and gates, ensuring they are properly locked and secured.
- Respond effectively and in accordance with established emergency protocols to incidents such as fire alarms, medical emergencies, or security incidents, promptly contacting emergency services (police, fire, medical) as required.
- Provide helpful assistance and a reassuring presence to students and on-site staff during the night.
- Identify and report any maintenance deficiencies, safety hazards (e.g., unlocked doors, faulty lighting, trip hazards), or unusual occurrences to the Facilities Manager or designated personnel in a timely manner.
- Enforce school policies and regulations during the overnight hours, addressing any violations appropriately.
- Maintain a visible and proactive security presence to deter potential security issues before they arise.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall safety and security of the school.
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- CPR/First Aid certified or able to obtain prior to start date.
- A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Must be able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers, and clients.
- Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English.
Preferred Requirements
- Preferred one (1) year background in security, law enforcement or military.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors and Outdoors, frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
Description of environment: Environment will vary based on the facility assigned to.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
