Job Description
NANA Management Services (NMS) is seeking a dedicated and caring individual to serve as Residential Life Professional to support Mount Edgecumbe High School. This role is crucial in fostering a supportive, safe, and culturally enriching living and learning environment for students from diverse communities across Alaska. The Residential Life Professional will serve as a mentor, advisor, and positive role model, contributing to the holistic development and well-being of our students within the residential setting. This position requires a deep understanding of and respect for Alaska Native cultures, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to the success of our unique student body. This position is an employee of NANA Management Services and is stationed at Mount Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact and trusted adult for resident students, offering guidance on academic, social, emotional, and cultural matters. Offer mentorship and support that is culturally sensitive and responsive to individual student needs. Connect students with relevant school and community resources.
- Provide well-rounded programming opportunities for all residential students and to manage the daily schedule of student activities, resource development and transportation needs.
- Ensure the academic success of all students by working closely as a liaison with the academic staff and residential staff.
- Provide outdoor programming opportunities for all students and focus on leadership development of students.
- Act as a role model and assist students in learning how to make good decisions by focusing on at-risk students and assisting them in reversing destructive behaviors.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all resident students by enforcing school policies, responding to student concerns, and addressing emergencies in accordance with established protocols. Maintain a visible and supportive presence in the residential halls.
- Maintain open and effective communication with students' families and home communities, respecting cultural protocols and fostering strong partnerships in support of student success.
- May supervise and mentor Resident Advisors within the residential halls, providing guidance and support in their roles.
- Other duties as assigned and qualified for.

Minimum Requirements
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have a strong desire to engage high school students in meaningful, fun, social, and team-building activities such as outdoor recreation, leadership development, arts, culturally relevant programming, and more.
- 1 Year experience in residential life, recreation, teaching, athletic coaching, or working with youth is desirable; training and mentorship may be provided for the right candidate. Related or relevant experience will be considered.
- A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’s vehicle insurance policy.
- CPR/First Aid or able to obtain prior to start date.
- Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’s vehicle insurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors and Outdoors, frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
Description of environment: Environment will vary based on the facility assigned to.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
