The Detention Officer is responsible to ensure the safety and security of detainees in custody, acting in accordance with the highest ethical standards at all times, and ensuring a spirit of fairness and integrity in the on-going execution of their duties. Detention Officers for the Port Isabel Detention Center (PIDC) are assigned to unarmed posts inside the detention facility and are directly responsible for the supervision, safety, and security of detainees within the facility secure perimeter. - Conducts security and sanitation checks of the area prior to relieving the outgoing officer and throughout the shift.
- Inventories all equipment and notates the results in the logbook.
- Receives all authorized equipment and ensures that it is in proper working condition.
- Ensures that communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery.
- Performs duties related to the detention, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required in the contract.
- Exercises surveillance and control over detainees and maintains order and discipline.
- Attends to housing, feeding, and the physical well-being of detainees, 24 hours a day.
- Makes official entries in the assigned post logbooks that are accurate, legible and complete.
- Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility.
- Provides care, custody, and control of detainees.
- Removes detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures.
- Supervises detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care and during other duties as assigned.
- Arrives on time for assigned shifts wearing full issued uniform and in compliance with dress code.
- Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting, and monitoring as outlined in company safety policies.
- Successfully completes all assigned training including defensive tactics and course requiring a minimum physical stamina.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
