Overview
Serves as primary mechanic to perform skilled work and resolve technical issues in the installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (HRAC) systems' electronic and mechanical instruments, controls, and circuits. Instructs and provides technicalassistanceand guidance to HRAC Mechanicsrequiredto perform skilled technical work in installation, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of process controls, instrumentation, and data reporting systems / subsystems for HRAC systems. Installs,implements,modifies, upgrades, and performs Preventive Maintenance to control systems to include, software programming and programs new controls. This position is distinguished from the HRAC Mechanic position in that the HRAC Control and Instrumentation Mechanic performs, instructs, andassistsother HRAC Mechanics in the performance of the taskscontainedhereinand, installs and programs new controls,modifiesprograms of existing controls and provides technicalexpertiserequiredto resolve issues associated with these tasks. This position is distinguished from the Instrument Mechanic in that it deals solely with the controls, instrumentation, and related software requirements of HRAC systems.
Responsibilities
- Performs, instructs, supports,assists, and guides, asappropriate, other mechanics in the performance of their HRAC system installation, maintenance, and repair responsibilities with regards to HRAC systems controls and instrumentation.
- Provides technicalexpertiserequiredto install, test, calibrate,maintain, and repair computer, electronic, pneumatic, and communication interface systems and components of process control, access, and data acquisition systems for HRAC systems.
- Installs,maintains, modifies, and performs software version upgrades to (DDC) controlsystems' software programming and programs new controls.
- Repairs, calibrates, andmaintainsrequired test equipment and provides, support,assistanceand instructions as required for other mechanics to do the same.
- Verifies, resets, and adjusts HRAC systems' software programs associated with the operation of process control, telemetry, access, and data acquisition systems.
- Inspect and test control and instrumentation components installed by other contractors.
- Perform quality assurance inspections on completed control and instrumentation jobs; ensures conformance with institutional standards, mechanical codes, OSHA regulations, lock out-tag out, confined space protocols, Material Safety Data Sheets, engineering specifications, and other regulatory requirements.
- Uses a computer to create, compose, and edit technical and / or administrative reports and documentation.
- Coordinates and monitors maintenance by outside contractors, including replacement and repair of mechanical, electromechanical, and controls equipment.
- Monitors and coordinates the installation of new equipment, to include training, documentation, andestablishingmaintenance procedures.
- Establishes,coordinates,andmaintainscalibration programs associated with control systems, to include gauges, meters, instrumentation, and safety devices.
- Supports, provides technicalassistance,guidance,and instructions to HRAC mechanics on DDC control systems, used to control the mechanical equipment.
- Interface with theappropriate governmentpersonnel, to assure the RSA Garrison's DDC Operating Platform ismaintainedto governmentand industrystandards.
- Upgrade HRAC laptops andworkstation'ssoftware on a continuous basis, to keep current with changes and / or upgrades in control systemssoftware.
- Read, interpret, and modify HRAC electrical, electronic and / or microprocessor schematics blueprints and logic controls.
- Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, partsassemblies,and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job / task.
- May perform various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup,maintainwarehouse space.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties asassigned.
- Working conditions :
- Work is in a variety of weather conditions,frequentlyin cramped conditions such as in electrical cabinets and mechanical rooms and may berequiredin hazardous or emergency situations.
- Requires the close observation of digital or analog displays and data printouts todeterminecompliance with performance standards.
- Must be able to distinguish color codes on wires and electronicdevices andperform precise muscular movements of hands.
- Some tasks, such as installation and maintenance, entail climbing ladders and working at heights over 10 feet above the ground.
- Maintenance and repair projects maynecessitatethe use of small hand tools such as saws, hammers, and screwdrivers.
- Transportation of equipment to a job site may require carrying20-50-poundobjects for short distances over rough and uneven ground.
- Alarm sirens at the work site require that technicians be able to hear audible warning devices.
- Work in confined space may require the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Authorities and limitation on authority :
- Works independently.
- Provides general supervision.
- Assignments may involveprovidingtechnical guidance to other technical and maintenance personnel.
- Accountable to the Mechanical Section Supervisor foraccomplishingassigned functionsin accordance withcontract requirements,
- Army / DoD regulations, and applicable federal and state laws and codes.
- Has authority toaccomplishall assigned functions, with general guidance from supervisor,in accordance withcontract and Army / DoD requirements and various codes.
