Job Title: Social Studies Teacher
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary:
Nantucket High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Social Studies Teacher for grades 9-12 to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous instruction in history, civics, economics, and other social sciences, fostering critical thinking and civic engagement among students. The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop curriculum and support student success in a diverse learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum aligned with Massachusetts State Standards for grades 9-12.
Design and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in Social Studies courses.
Foster critical thinking, discussion, and analysis of historical and contemporary issues.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and provide timely feedback.
Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods into classroom instruction.
Establish and maintain a classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusivity, and high expectations for all students.
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning experiences.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.
Participate in professional development opportunities and stay informed on best practices in Social Studies education.
Support and contribute to school-wide initiatives, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies, Education, or a related field.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Education or Social Studies-related discipline.
Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in Social Studies (5-12) or eligibility to obtain.
Experience teaching high school Social Studies preferred.
Strong knowledge of historical concepts, government structures, economics, and cultural perspectives.
Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Salary : $77,425 - $130,688
