Salary: $43.87/Hour to $65.77/Hour DOQ

Key Responsibilities:

As an Operator I, II, or III, your role will include, but is not limited to:

• Operation & Monitoring: Operate treatment, pumping, and reclamation facilities to process wastewater, biosolids, and recycled water effectively.
• Routine Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, filters, chemical feeders, and more.
• SCADA System Management: Monitor plant operations using SCADA systems to ensure efficient performance and make adjustments as needed.
• Equipment Control: Operate and adjust valves, pumps, and automated controls to regulate wastewater flow and disposal.
• Team Leadership: At the Operator III level, lead less experienced operators, ensuring smooth operation and adherence to safety protocols.
• Problem Solving: Troubleshoot system issues and perform basic adjustments to equipment to resolve mechanical or operational challenges.
• Safety Compliance: Follow strict safety procedures when handling chemicals, working with hazardous equipment, and ensuring a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience:
  • Operator I: At least 1 year of experience in a similar wastewater treatment role.
  • Operator II: At least 2 years of experience in wastewater treatment at a level equivalent to Operator I.
  • Operator III: At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience as a certified wastewater treatment operator.
• Certifications:
  • Operator I: Must possess a California SWRCB Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate.
  • Operator II: Must possess a California SWRCB Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate.
  • Operator III: Must possess a California SWRCB Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate.
• Licenses: A valid California Class C Driver’s License is required. Operator I and higher must obtain a California Class B Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.
• Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to troubleshoot, operate, and maintain wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and regulatory standards.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic principles.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including directing and training others at the Operator III level.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.

Physical & Environmental Demands:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and adverse weather conditions.
• Exposure to chemicals, noise, and mechanical hazards while working in treatment plant environments.
• Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and climbing.
