Description:
Duties for the position include but are not limited to:
- Provides all services available in the normal operation of the harbor according to procedures.
- Regularly inspect the Marina for safety, cleanliness and defective equipment i.e. broken cleats, power pedestals and water leaks.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the entire harbor, parking lot areas and all club grounds.
- Develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures for all aspects of harbor operations, including orienting member/boaters who are acquiring their boat slip for the first time.
- Maintains the Dockmaster’s Office in a neat, clean and orderly condition at all times.
- Develops and implements the 2025 vision for harbor services, including food services and harbor activities for boaters to enhance the value of annual dockage.
- Create and implement the schedule of waterfront programs including Adult Sailing Programs, Fuel Service, Open Sailing/Kayaks/Paddleboards and assign staff accordingly.
- Continually provide information to update the website and weekly e-blasts with promotional information on member waterfront programs
- Maintain Club-owned boat(s) and have all boats and docks in good working condition daily.
- Schedules necessary preventative maintenance to keep the dock and facilities in good repair.
- Ensures the dock and facilities remain first-class.
- Performs dock checks in the morning for any arrivals or departures.
- Supervise the waste management plan, including removal of trash and recycling from the docks. Includes the removal of debris from the water trapped in the dock system and ensuring that the compactor area is kept clean and secure.
- Provides assistance to Members and guests in docking their boat or getting underway in accordance with dock rules and etiquette of good seamanship.
- Anticipate and address Member and transient service needs.
- Operates the ship-to-shore radio equipment in accordance with rules and procedures established by the Federal Communications Commission.
- Attend monthly BGD Committee meetings and meet with Committee Chair as needed.
- Assigns work to scheduled Dock employees. Supervises and disciplines departmental employees.
- Accepts transient reservations for incoming vessels, assigns slips, creates dockage agreements, creates dockage invoices, collects payments and keeps a record of arrivals and departures.
- Produces a list of overnight transients for the club switchboard before leaving for the day.
- Courteously, effectively, and uniformly enforces all rules and regulations.
- Involved in construction of the annual departmental operating and capital budgets, and managing to the approved budget.
- Any other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Requirements for the position include:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, lift and pull objects, and maintain stability under extreme heat.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification is a plus.
- Must be organized, detail oriented and able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Experience handling water vessels is a plus.
- Understanding of maintenance routines required for club owned vessels, equipment, & facilities.
- Computer literate in database management, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Experience with budget management.
- Ability to effectively communicate via telephone, hand-held radio, or personal contact with a variety of people. Excellent written communication skills are also needed.
