FTE: 38% (15 hrs/week)
Compensation: $18.00 - $18.00 per hour
Work Location: On Site

Job Summary:
The School of the Arts Studio Assistant Workstudy position supports the undergraduate Visual Arts department. Primary responsibilities include managing the physical operations of the School of the Arts studio spaces including the kiln & firing schedule, assistant teaching in Visual Arts courses, and providing administrative departmental support as needed including but not limited to managing social media accounts, fostering awareness of contemplative visual arts on and off campus, and assisting with events and gallery hangings/openings. This position has both flexible and non-flexible hours with 50% - 100% of hours being on-site week-to-week.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
• Managing the physical art studios includes the 2-D, 3-D, and Graduate Art Therapy studio spaces adherent to policies, procedures, and safety postings.
• Assistant teach up to 1 visual arts course per semester
• Loads, fires, and unloads 3D Studio’s kiln as needed throughout the semester. Adheres exactly to the planned kiln firing times as advised by the Ceramics faculty & department chair to ensure that all student work is fired throughout the semester.
• Maintain social media accounts & foster awareness of contemplative visual arts on and off campus by promoting arts-related events, staying up-to-date on arts events on and off campus, and facilitating connections between graduate and undergraduate schools
• Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the School of the Arts studios; including sinks, floors, tables, closets, walls, halls, etc.
• Manage art supplies and keeps accurate inventory
• Organizes materials and equipment in the 3D studio.
• Advises on new systems of organization, where needed, for efficiency and aesthetics.
• Monitors the maintenance of all of the equipment and supplies, immediately reporting any Posts policies and procedures having to do with the School of the Arts studios as directed by SOTA Administration.
• Assist with event planning, gallery hanging, openings, and other arts-related events as needed
• Perform administrative tasks related to visual arts courses, eg scanning readings and research
• Assist School of the Arts Assistant with gallery hangings/openings/School of the Arts events
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Student must be awarded work-study hours by the Naropa Financial Aid office to fill this position.
• High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and assertive communication skills.
• Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
• Strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, able to multi-task and work independently without direct supervision.
• Reliable and dependable.
• All job candidates must demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of and appreciation for the values of Naropa University and the capacity to demonstrate an integration and embodiment of these values as evidenced in work, communication, collaboration styles, and other general workplace behaviors

Preferred Qualifications:
• Interest in and familiarity with visual arts & School of the Arts programs
• Experience in art studio management especially the ceramics studio.
• Basic skills in social media management, computer and copier use, basic understanding of Microsoft Word, and internet research.
• Access to own transport

Naropa recognizes the following holidays throughout the year: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Fall Break, 4th Thursday and Friday in November, and Winter Break, the last two weeks in December encompassing the Christmas holiday as well as New Year’s.

A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week. Employees who work 20 – 29 hours each week are eligible for only the employer-paid short-term & long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance & accidental death and dismemberment, and the retirement plan, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa’s retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
