DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing various routine chemical and biological testing in support of Narragansett Bay Commission’s plant/field operations; receipts samples into the laboratory; preserves samples and ensures sample chain of custody protocols are followed. In accordance with NBC industry/regulatory guidelines (OSHA, DEM, EPA, etc.) perform a variety of routine chemical and biological testing routines on samples submitted to the Laboratory obtained at field locations for analysis (TSS, BOD, Chloride Fecal, nitrites etc.). Set up, maintain, and as required, calibrates all laboratory testing and sampling equipment used in daily performance of duties. Maintain an accurate and timely record, and computer database of all laboratory tests and activities performed. Interacts with other Narragansett Bay Commission operations and support departments regarding information/ status of work laboratory requirements. Orients and renders training/ guidance to other Narragansett Bay Commission/ Laboratory personnel involved in sample taking, testing, and/ or other laboratory procedures. Receipts samples into the laboratory; preserves samples and ensures sample chain-of-custody protocols are followed. Within skill and experience capabilities, performs other duties and projects as assigned, to include working off-shifts and being available for emergency call-ins, and working weekends/ holidays on a rotating/ scheduled basis. Perform other duties as assigned, within skill and experience capabilities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a two-year technical college degree program (biology, microbiology, chemistry, environment science) or equivalent required. Requires knowledge of analytical testing and sampling techniques and procedures as applied to wastewater collection, processing, and discharge.
