What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aerospace Engineer, AST, Flight Systems Safety (Direct Hire) position at Nasa?
As a Range Safety Analyst (RSA) with the System Safety and Mission Assurance Division at NASA Ames Research Center, you will support the Range Safety Representative (RSR) in assessing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) airworthiness, flight readiness, and range safety activities, in accordance with NASA Procedural Requirements for Range Flight Safety NPR 8715.5 and the NASA Technical Standard for Range Flight Safety NASA-STD-9719.25. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.
To qualify for GS-14 , you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level :
- Identifying flight hazards, determining the appropriate controls to mitigate the hazards, and verifying / validating the implementation of the mitigations in aerospace or aeronautical vehicle testing or operations;
- Calculating flight safety limits for guided or unguided Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), identifying alternative approaches to develop the most effective solutions and / or analyzing post-flight data to determine violations of limits or variations in predicted performance;
- Coordinating, monitoring, maintaining surveillance over, or performing duties concerned with the engineering systems safety for space or aeronautical program.
