The Acute Care Services Clinical Director reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and plays a critical role within the patient care team, providing clinical leadership, quality management, and financial oversight for acute care units.
This position carries 24/7 accountability for maintaining high standards of care and aligning with hospital policies and goals.
The Director will lead and mentor staff, drive quality and safety initiatives, and manage resources to support the effective operation of units, including ICU/PCU, Medical/Surgical, and Rehab Nursing.
The Director will collaborate closely with Leadership Council members to foster a multidisciplinary, service-oriented environment. This role requires flexibility to work across both night and day shifts as needed to support staff.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support staff education and orientation, partnering with the Acute Care Manager.
- Ensure adequate nursing staffing per unit/shift based on patient needs.
- Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, and the quality/safety standards implementation.
- Represent Acute Care Services at committee meetings and assist in policy and procedural development.
- Oversee budget and resource allocation, ensuring cost-effective unit operations.
- Collaborate with the Acute Care Manager on productivity management.
- Regularly conduct rounds on the units and remain visible for staff support.
- Communicate with the Senior Leadership Team regarding unit progress and strategic initiatives.
- Provide direct patient care or act as a staff resource when required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; RN license required.
- Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, or Leadership/Management.
- Certifications: ACLS, ONS certification, and Healthcare Provider BLS (required within 3 months of hire).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years as an Acute Care Clinical Leader.
- Unit Director experience preferred.
- Competency as an RN for Med/Surg or ICU.
- At least 2 years of bedside RN experience.
- Proven experience in physician collaboration, project management, and process improvement.
- Experience with EMR systems and working with teams of varying skill levels.
Required Skills:
- Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with a strategic, teamwork-oriented approach.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software.
- Proven experience in tabulating, project management, and collaborative projects with physicians.
