What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at NASCO?
I. Job Summary: The incumbent is responsible for performing cost accounting work and maintaining accurate inventory and fixed assets, providing cost information and managerial reports and is involved in other related financial projects and analysis under the direction of the Accounting Manager.
II. Job Authority
1. Valuating inventory and fixed assets
2. Other authority as assigned or delegated.
III. Duties
A. Essential Duties:
1. Maintain cost accounting system that ensures accurate costing
2. Review and analyze standard and actual costs for variances and prepare reports
3. Ensure accuracy in the bill of materials and routers of manufactured goods
4. Collect data to determine costs of raw material purchases
5. Set standard cost for purchased and manufactured goods
6. Prepare, analyze and report monthly sales and gross margin
7. Coordinate physical inventories and cycle counts with production control and shipping
8. Reconcile inventory accounts for physical inventories and cycle counts
9. Calculate inventory reserves and record adjustments
10. Prepare, analyze and report monthly inventory
11. Record fixed asset purchases, depreciation, and dispositions
12. Prepare, analyze and report monthly fixed assets and construction in progress
13. Provide forward looking cost information to sales to support accurate pricing for new products
14. Support cost reduction project calculations and perform comparative analysis
15. Prepare documents and reports for audits
16. Reconcile data between pertinent systems
17. Perform month-end and year-end closing tasks for inventory and fixed assets
18. Support general accounting tasks
19. Other assignments as directed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $61,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
