POSITION:  Work-Based Learning Coordinator (CTE)                    

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Career and Technical Education and Workforce Development

SALARY GRADE: State Salary Schedule

 

Classification: Certified

Terms of Employment: 10 Months

 

NATURE OF WORK:  The Work-Based Learning Coordinator (WBLC) is responsible for overseeing all work-based learning opportunities for students.  These experiences will include internships, pre-apprenticeships, advanced studies, job-shadowing and working with business and industry.  This position may also require the WBLC to assist the CTE Executive Director with tasks and responsibilities as assigned.  The WBLC position also requires the candidate to be well versed in CTE programs, courses, overall CTE structures, as well as local, state, and federal legislation and policies.    

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Additional duties may be assigned).

  • Maintain exceptional records and data for WBL student placements, events, and WBL opportunities. 
  • Meet with employers to monitor student progress in WBL internships.
  • Keep the Executive Director of CTE consistently abreast of any changes related to Work-Based Learning.
  • Collaborate with Career and Development Coordinators at each school to identify students that are interested in WBL opportunities.
  • Promote and market WBL events and opportunities to students, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of CTE and the Career and Instruction Management Coordinator (CIMC) in planning and executing CTE events and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships with businesses. 
  • Assist the Executive Director of CTE in recruiting business partners in order to build a stronger connection with industry and businesses in the area and region.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, conferences and workshops, as assigned, to acquire and retain knowledge of state and federal legislation, district requirements in conjunction with NCDPI policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree and CTE related field experience
  • Applicant must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in teaching or administration
  • Previous experience in supervising others is preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The CTE / Work-Based Coordinator should have a comprehensive knowledge of how the CTE program operates from a federal, state, and local point of view.  The candidate should understand and be able to communicate clearly the components of an effective CTE program.  The CTE Work-Based Coordinator should be able to communicate well with industry and business partners.

 

Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills - Familiarity with basic computer operation and software.  Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.

 

Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds (school supplies, books, files, papers, etc.).  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions)

Other - Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on the division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated regularly by the supervisor in accordance with Board Policy.
