POSITION: MEP Recruiter Part-time


SALARY GRADE:

NATURE OF WORK:
An employee in this position is responsible for performing various migrant education program functions in an MEP service area. Work requires a broad understanding of system operations, policies, and MEP programs and procedures. A detailed knowledge of MEP services is essential. Program tasks, primarily focusing on recruitment and coordination and provision of support services, are performed independently, with unusual situations being referred to the Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator evaluates work through staff meetings, email correspondences, work performance, and records.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Additional Duties may be assigned.

  • Performs all program recruitment functions
  • Prepares and updates OSY Profile, Supplement Service Log, and OSY Screener
  • Provides students with community agency services information.
  • Tutor students at the camps according to program objectives
  • Serve as MEP program liaison and advocate for migrant students
  • Participates in staff meetings to keep informed of federal, state, and local regulations/guidelines and to improve job skills
  • Assist and/or provide support to MEP events.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator
  • Participate in local meetings and workshops as assigned by the Program Coordinator (i.e., local meetings and conferences)
  • Prepares, maintains, and files required work logs, schedules, forms, and reports
  • Submit and update COE files
  • Be punctual to all activities scheduled
  • Assists in the training of temporary and/or new MEP staff
  • Operates a variety of office machines such as copiers, computers, and scanner
  • Maintain an updated materials inventory for “Welcome Bags & Heat Kits” for OSY/H2A students.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from program administrator and staff consistent with the duties of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge of Hispanic culture and migrant lifestyle
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish and English, as well as to communicate effectively with all coworkers in the work environment and community
  • Ability to meet people, establish relationships, build and maintain a high level of confidence and support with supervisors, students, co-workers, and the general public
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, make decisions, work with a variety of people, and meet deadlines
  • Keep MEP Coordinator abreast on duties assigned weekly
  • Ability to produce work efficiently and accurately in a migrant camp, office, or travel setting
  • Ability to learn, read, be trained, and work effectively as a team member
  • Experience with migrant or seasonal agricultural workers (preferred)
  • Flexibility in hours and workdays. Recruiting and support services often occur outside regular work hours and on weekends. (During the peak season, this may include working on Saturdays and Sundays)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as Google Workspace.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping physically, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Must be able to perform work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a reasonable amount of force frequently to lift and/or carry student materials and often have, push, or otherwise move objects.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from high school combined with some related post-secondary training and/or work experience (required)
  • Associate degree (preferred)
  • Valid NC Driver’s license
