Performs responsible administrative and accounting related duties in the appraisal and mapping functions of the County Tax Department.
An employee in this class performs a variety of journey level administrative and accounting related duties in support of the county tax functions using established guidelines and procedures. Work includes preparing and entering real estate appraisal data into the data base, preparing and mailing appraisal notices, data entry of building permits, preparing and mailing sales questionnaires, assisting the public with a wide variety of appraisal information, and related tasks. Independent judgment and initiative are required in the performance of duties; situations involving complex interpretations of tax laws and policies are referred to the supervision. Considerable tact and courtesy must be exercised in frequent public contact. Work is supervised by a section supervisor in the Tax Department is evaluated through observation, review of reports, compliance with laws and policies, feedback from customers and annual performance evaluations.

Enters detailed information into the data base generated by field appraisers; enters measurements for decks, number of stories, utility rooms, etc.; draws houses from appraisers' field notes using specialized software.
Prepares and mails out notices of valuations.
Provides primary customer service for appraisal division of the Tax Office; answers questions and provides information to the public regarding ownership, value, sales trends and locations, etc.; performs research as necessary to assist the public.
Receives building permits and separates into townships, home; prints property cards with name, values, sketches after appraisal and returns to appraiser for proofing and verification prior to notifying owner of valuation.
Prepares sales questionnaires that request amount paid, type of sale, and other details and mails; enters returning questionnaire data.
Digitizes field sketches of appraisers to record new construction, changes and improvements to real property; makes adjustments to ensure closure of structures.
Maintains and maps property sales files for research purposes; sends questionnaires to buyers and sellers; verifies sales prices; generates and updates sales maps.
Assists in determining ownership and parcel identification of properties; researches recorded deeds and sales records to document property ownership for tax purposes.
Provides assistance to tax payers, attorneys, real estate professionals, and the general public in researching records, using maps, and in providing general information on tax laws, policies and procedures.
Prepares, prints, and distributes a wide variety of information; files and maintains records for easy retrieval.

Graduation from high school, supplemented by business courses and considerable, responsible administrative experience involving public contact, preferably in tax administration activities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
