What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Center Program Specialist position at Nash County?
This position is primarily responsible for assisting with the development, planning and facilitation of daily programs and activities at a multipurpose senior center in order to enrich participants’ overall experiences. The Program Specialist serves as an assistant to the Senior Center Supervisor and is expected to maintain effective communication with the supervisor in order to assure proper program and service delivery.
- Assist with development, set-up, facilitation, and clean-up of programs and special events.
- Assist in assuring that programs are running smoothly and that participants have needed supplies or guidance in order for programs to function.
- Facilitate fitness orientation for participants who wish to use the onsite fitness facility. Assure that all paperwork is completed and that accurate records are maintained.
- Assist in program planning including researching and developing new ideas for programs, as well as securing vendors and instructors for programs, and leading programs.
- Communicate with Senior Center Supervisor regarding program needs and participant complaints or issues.
- Observe and monitor program spaces, facility cleanliness, equipment, and the facility in general and reports maintenance issues to Senior Center Supervisor.
- Change out flyers and update bulletin boards as programs are completed.
- Assist participants as needed with information or assistance.
- Assist with the coordination of seasonal programs as assigned by Senior Center Supervisor. Examples of seasonal programs include Operation Fan/Heat Relief, Stockings for Seniors, and the Easter Food Box Drive.
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Outlook/360. Must have the ability to: enter data into an online management system; work off-site if needed; develop and facilitate presentations and present information to large groups of people; acquire initial and ongoing CPR/First Aid/AED certification; complete all other training requirements as set forth by the Department. Must have strong verbal skills, written communication skills, and organizational skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills for use with staff, participants, vendors, stakeholders, and the public. Must have a valid driver license and a vehicle for use at work.
Minimum of high school diploma (Associate’s Degree preferred). At least one year experience in human services or gerontology fields (preferred).
