Description

Job Title: Speech and Language Pathologist  

Position Summary:  The Speech and Language Pathologist is responsible for providing consultative services to the students and members from the Nashoba Learning Group School and Adult Services Program across the full calendar year.

Responsibilities:
Staff hired in the Speech and Language Pathologist position are responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

  • Consulting to a caseload of up to 50 adult members or 35 students (or a combination of members and students)
  • Conducting monthly consults to teachers/therapist and clinical staff (Board Certified Behavior Analysts) regarding speech and language programming, including AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)
  • Developing IEP (Individualized Education Program) and DHSP (DayHab Service Plans) objectives in collaboration with the clinical staff on each student/member’s case
  • Conducting annual evaluations for adult members and 3-year re-evaluation for students
  • Conducting AAC evaluations for students as needed
  • Conducting SLP related trainings, can occur before, during or after program hours
    • Reporting to work promptly at 8:30am and remaining at work until 3:30pm (school) 4:00pm (adult program) unless their responsibilities require them to come in earlier or stay later, which will occasionally occur
    • Following NLG’s emergency procedures (administering First Aid, CPR or restraints), whenever needed.
    • Reporting any clinical issues that arise to that specific student’s Clinical Director and reporting to the Assistant Program Director, Program Administrator or Executive Director for administrative issues.
  • Speech and Language Pathologists are responsible for attending the following monthly meetings:
  • The Speech Department Meeting: held bi-monthly (not on a set schedule) between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm
  • The All Staff Meeting-the first Friday of every month at 8:15am (school) and 8:00am (adult program)

The essential functions of your job responsibilities are not limited to only the tasks listed in the job description but may include other duties as needed and assigned.

Qualifications


Staff in the Speech and Language Pathologist position need to have:

  • Experience with or an interest in; Autism, AAC, Apraxia, and developing functional communication
  • A master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and/or Speech and Language Pathology
  • MA license in speech and language pathology
  • ASHA certificate
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the field
  • Trained in Strategies for Limiting Violent Episodes (SOLVE), First Aid and CPR and successfully able to implement learned skills.  Classes to obtain these qualifications will be provided by NLG. The SOLVE introduction course (16-20 hours) will be provided during orientation and then a1.5 hour refresher course will be held annually.
  • Satisfactory results for new hire and recurring background and CORI check.
  • A driver’s license in good standing.

Physical Job Capabilities:

Physical Job Requirements of this job include:

  • Physically capable of keeping students safe and in close proximity at all times, particularly during outings
  • Safely implement crisis prevention techniques and restraining students 50 pounds up to and in excess of 125 pounds when necessary
  • Physical Movements Required for Safe Implementation of crisis prevention techniques:

  • Quick and abrupt movements of upper and lower body (moving quickly, brisk and vigorous use of hands and arms)
  • Rotating upper torso movements
  • Arm and hand movements to grasp, range of motion movement with upper body and arms
  • Balance
  • Lifting and lowering (bending at knees repeatedly)
  • Prolonged duration of exertion with both upper and lower body, being in one position for periods of time

Supervision and Performance Assessment:

  • All Speech-Language Pathologists are supervised by the SLP Department Supervisor. This includes a mentorship program throughout your first year of employment. 
  • Speech-Language Pathologists are evaluated on general performance, collaboration, communication, and professionalism. 
  • Once per year an assessment will be made regarding the SLP’s performance. Evaluation includes feedback from clinical staff and observation.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Education: Master’s (required)
Work Remotely: No; After 90 days of employment, eligible for 1 work from home day per week for paperwork
