Nashville Rescue Mission is actively seeking a full-time Supervisor to join our Men's Guest Security / Support Specialist team. Are you the right person? Do you have experience in overseeing a residential facility and resident clients (guests), conducting intakes for arriving clients, providing basic shelter services and security while supervising, teaching, and coaching a staff?

 

Position Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.

Managing and overseeing second shift, this person will demonstrate empathy and patience in dealing with guests and staff members. They motivate rather than criticize because strong leaders understand the effect they have on the people around them.

 

Essential Duties:

  1. Supervises Guest Services Specialists to work as a team to accomplish assigned shift tasks.
  2. Ensures that the shift is adequately staffed; approves and posts monthly schedules, approves all time off, missed punches, and weekly time sheets for submission to the Assistant Director of Men's Guest Services; participates in recruiting and hiring qualified applicants to fulfill department needs.
  3. Encourages, assists, and trains employees; provides continuous attention to development of staff.
  4. Communicates areas of accountability and performance expected of assigned staff; participates in performance evaluations; identifies gap areas in performance that need corrective action and/or counseling, up to and including termination.
  5. Communicates department performance and conducts staff prayer and devotion meeting fifteen minutes before shift starts; coordinates meetings and events to encourage teamwork, safety, security, and Nashville Rescue Mission's policies.
  6. Ensures safety and control between shifts by a "pass down," key control, buddy system at night on patrol, and adherence to Nashville Rescue Mission's security and operational practices. Completes and enters an effective "passed down log" and all incident/accident reports before shift is complete.
  7. Maintains adequate departmental supplies for day-to-day activity; ensures that department is adequately equipped with necessary tools, replacement batteries, puncture proof gloves, flashlights, etc. to perform required daily tasks.
  8. Demonstrates responsiveness and sensitivity to guests' needs; provides radical hospitality and gracious, compassionate guest service leadership and assists guests with inquiries and strives to meet their needs.
  9. Follows all Nashville Rescue Mission policies and procedures as outlined in common Mission handbooks, departmental handbooks, and other Nashville Rescue Mission communications; ensuring assigned staff compliance and performance is consistent and constant over all shifts.
  10. Oversees and participates as required in all in-house training for assigned staff.
  11. Participates in available supervisory training on topics including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination practices including legal compliance and internal processes.
  12. Maintains favorable working relationship with all other Nashville Rescue Mission employees to foster, aid, and promote excellence, hospitality, and a cooperative working climate conducive to high employee morale, productivity, stewardship, and efficiency; supports Life Recovery Program by actively referring guests.
  13. Maintains professional appearance at all times by wearing clean jeans or khakis and Mission shirts.
  14. Keeps Assistant Director of Guest Services promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance; takes prompt corrective action as necessary or suggests alternative courses of action.
  15. Acts as a liaison between the Assistant Director, department staff, and Guest Volunteer Program (GVP) guests to foster cooperation and collaboration to get tasks done tactfully and together.
  16. Interacts with staff tactfully yet directly and maintains an open forum of discussion.
  17. Understands and properly posts department compliance to federal labor laws and Nashville Rescue Mission policies and procedures.
  18. Provides oversight and ensures effective shift operations in areas including, but not limited to:
    • Bed registration, daily Mission scheduling, daily Guest Volunteer Program (GVP) work assignments, coffee service, clothing stores, organizing guest meal activity, guest restroom stewardship, security assignments, chapel supervision, day room and computer lab scheduling for services, transportation, special events and activities, office, maintenance and janitorial supplies, oversee bedding for dorms, overnight sleeping, and morning wakeup
    • Dayroom and multipurpose room management
    • Cleaning, straightening, and ensuring all areas are broom swept clean and trash is emptied, including shower rooms, bathrooms, office areas, front counter, day room, five-day or 72-hour storage area, chapel, lobby, linen room, clothes closet and staff kitchen; daily checking Guest Services work therapy cleaning
    • Supervise guest service access to meals, chapel, dorms (bed down and wake up)
    • Linen collection and distribution
    • Storage of dorm mats
    • Assembly of cafeteria tables and chairs
  1. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position
