Sign-on Bonus: A signing bonus of $1,000.00 is available for qualified and experienced candidates, payable in two installments at 90-days and 6 months after the hire date.
Job Summary: The Emergency Veterinary Assistant serves as an aid to the emergency veterinarians. Works to assist veterinarians in triaging patients, carrying out initial orders and diagnostics, conducting exams, procedures, treatments, and admitting patients to ICU.
Shift Available: Weekends (Dayshift)
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- At least 3 year(s) of veterinary hospital experience
- Highly skilled in veterinary triage, diagnostics, and nursing
- Must have strong veterinary medical knowledge and a detailed understanding of common disease processes and pharmacology
- Must be able to perform quick and efficient diagnostics, treatment, and procedures
- Must be exemplary in customer service, critical thinking, team-oriented attitude
Primary Duties:
- Determines levels of triage
- Obtains history and puts history into electronic patient care system (EzyVet)
- Assists veterinarian in all aspects of care
- Includes triaging patient, restraint for physical examination, discussing estimate and plan with clients, carrying out diagnostics, procedures, and medication administration
- Patient diagnostics, procedures, and treatment may include: IV catheter placement, blood work, urinalysis, radiographs, C.T. scans, CPR, sedation, anesthesia, medication administration (S.Q., I.M., IV routes of administration), medication dose calculation, knowledge of medication adverse effects
- Advanced skillset includes (preferred, not required): central line placement, abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, feeding tube placement, urinary catheter placement
- Discharge's patients, including filling medication prescriptions, ensuring diagnostics and medications are complete, educating clients on at-home care, going over discharge instructions with clients
Customer Service:
- Greet clients and welcome them into the hospital
- Checking in/out
- Enter client, patient, rDVM, and financial information into the hospital system.
- Take payments and deposits from Clients
- Answer client questions and phone calls
- Schedule appointments
- Client callbacks
- Process and respond to faxes/email
