Veterinary Technician- Urgent Care

Nashville Veterinary Specialists Animal Emergency is searching for Veterinary Technicians to join our GROWING team!
Licensed veterinary technicians (LVT) are truly the lifeblood of our hospital. Without our LVT, no procedures (surgical, medical, or otherwise) would be performed on our patients. Also, we would not be able to provide the care to our patients and the guidance to their families that is required for positive patient outcomes. The following is a list of some of the many duties provided by our licensed veterinary technicians:
Job Summary: The Urgent Care Veterinary Technician and Assistants serve as an aid to the urgent care veterinarians. Works to assist veterinarians in triaging patients, conducting exams, carrying out diagnostics, performing brief procedures, outpatient treatments, and discharging patients.
Position Responsibilities:
- Determines levels of triage (urgent vs emergent) and aids remote team with arrival of patient to hospital
- Obtains history and puts history into electronic patient care system (EzyVet)
- Assists veterinarian in all aspects of care
- Includes triaging patient, restraint for physical examination, discussing estimate and plan with clients, carrying out diagnostics, procedures, and medication administration
- Patient diagnostics, procedures and treatment may include: IV catheter placement, bloodwork, urinalysis, radiographs, abbreviated ultrasound scans, sedation, medication administration
- (SC, IM, IV routes of administration), medication dose calculation, knowledge of medication adverse side effects
- Discharges patients including filling medication prescriptions, ensuring diagnostics and medications are complete, educating clients on at-home care, going over discharge instructions with clients, ensuring satisfaction of client, and verification that checkout has been completed
Skills and Qualifications:
- Skilled in veterinary triage, diagnostics, and nursing
- Must have strong veterinary medical knowledge and a detailed understanding of common disease processes and pharmacology
- Must be able to perform quick and efficient diagnostics, treatment, and procedures
- Must be exemplary in customer service, critical thinking, team-oriented attitude
Required Qualifications:
- Have LVMT, CVT, LVT, or RVT licensure
- At least 1 year(s) of veterinary hospital experience
- Must obtain Tennessee Licensure within 90 days of start date
