Nassau’s 10-week, summer internship program in our Hartford, CT office prepares college students for careers on the cutting edge of insurance and asset management. This is an opportunity to learn more about a specific field or functional area within Finance while gaining valuable hands-on work experience. Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Opportunity to assist with a range of duties across Nassau corporate finance, accounting, and Nassau asset management (NAMCO) and/or work within targeted functions
- Build understanding of finance systems, including general ledger, sub-ledger, planning and reporting systems; expand use of excel spreadsheets/pivot tables for accounting work
- Gain exposure to corporate accounting and financial reporting including insurance company GAAP and Statutory analysis and reporting
- Exposure to quarterly financial close cycle, general ledger journal entries, and account reconciliation
- Learn about and support strategic planning, treasury and bank processes, controls and audit procedures, and special projects
- Assist with expense accounting, accounts payable activity and pay cycles, and allocations
- Gain exposure to NAMCO reporting functions and operations, including asset modeling, asset analytics, and producing of investment related presentations for various constituents
- Assist with reporting build out and automation leveraging R coding environment, providing specifications to programmers, and reviewing/testing of output for moving into production
- Assist in updating and review of investment related presentations
- Gain exposure to various investment systems and related information; assist with small projects including review, clean-up and updating of investment related data
- Interact with other areas of the company in finance role and build new relationships
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Applicants should be pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong technology skills and use of various applications/software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint Peoplesoft, MS Office)
- Team player with the ability to work independently in fast-paced dynamic environment
- Knowledge of insurance and financial markets a plus
- Detail-oriented and solid decision-making skills
- Able to independently recognize and understand complex business issues
