Job Summary

Perform and/or manage a wide variety of operational, IT, compliance and financial audits and projects to protect company assets and promote compliance with Company policies and procedures and industry best practice. Assignments encompass full spectrum of Nassau’s business processes, strategic initiatives, computer systems, financial processes, and other operating areas. Additionally, may perform aspects of Nassau’s Model Audit Rule (MAR) annual program.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Independently scope and perform financial, compliance, operational, and IT audits and advisory projects that evaluate controls over key risks, compliance with and adequacy of established policies and procedures. May manage supporting audit staff on specific engagements.
  • Work in partnership with teams across Nassau to advise on the processes and controls related to new system implementations/changes, mergers and acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives to ensure operational, financial, and compliance risks are mitigated.
  • Identify risk exposures and provide control recommendations and operational improvements to management and advise on actionable, efficient, and cost-effective risk mitigation.
  • Perform independent research using industry-accepted resources to inform audit and advisory projects.
  • Prepare reports and analyses that communicate relevant observations, root causes, and recommendations to improve processes and controls throughout Nassau.
  • Perform ongoing follow-up and validation of remediation activities.
  • Supervise work of audit staff as required.
  • Coordinate and work closely with Nassau’s external auditors to provide cost effective audit coverage and reduce redundant testing.
  • Participate in department-wide projects to strengthen the internal audit team’s policies and practices.
  • Assist with annual MAR program and related testing as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Four-year college degree required. Prefer degree in audit/accounting discipline.
  • Professional designation (CPA, CIA, CISA), advanced degree or equivalent technical knowledge and stay informed about the latest developments in his/her field of expertise.
  • 3-5 years of Audit experience (Internal Audit preferred).
  • General knowledge of technical IT, Annuity, and/or Investment risks and appropriate controls and test approaches.
  • Working knowledge of audit concepts and methods and current best practices.
  • Project management skills to perform, direct and plan audit assignments, work with department management, line management, consultants, outside auditors, and other members of audit staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience independently interacting with senior company employees, communicating issues, negotiating reasonable and appropriate remediation actions, and writing audit reports.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and to recommend control/process improvements.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments and ad hoc requests.
  • Ability to suggest and support innovative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to independently research and synthesize complex topics and standards to inform audit work.
  • Familiarity with various applications/software and/or willing to learn (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook).


Special Working Conditions

In Office/Hybrid: Onsite preferred, with ability to work in Hartford, CT a minimum of 3 days a week.

Our compensation system is designed to reward performance, support development and job growth, and compensate individuals relative to their contribution to our organization. The compensation for this position falls within $80,000-$120,000 depending upon experience and qualifications.
