What are the responsibilities and job description for the Banquet Manager position at Nassau Inn?
POSITION SUMMARY: supervises all banquet staff to ensure that the standards of service are met. Directs dining/banquet room and coordinates food service activities. Supervises and trains employees, confers with food preparation and other personnel for pre-meal and other activities. Requisition supplies needed for daily operation of banquets.
TASKS AND COMPETENCIES:
Banquets:
1. Obtains all pertinent information concerning the event, such as the size of the party, menu, and schedule of events, which is then entered onto a function sheet.
2. Reviews and has a thorough understanding of all functions sheets to coordinate scheduled events.
3. Trains and supervises banquet staff, completes and posts weekly staff schedules ensuring adequate number of staff to serve each function.
4. Provides banquet staff with a copy of each functions’ BEO to guide them through clients guidelines and expectations. Informs staff of special requests or changes that will affect either the food production or service of the event.
5. Inspects each function room 20 minutes prior to the scheduled event start time.
6. Greets clients prior to the onset of the function and is present throughout the duration to assist in areas where needed. Periodically checks with the client to ensure guest satisfaction and respond to any additional requests.
7. Supervises cleanup and breakdown of the function after its completion.
8. Responsible for the completion of the banquet evaluations and checks at the end of all the day’s events and any additional day of reporting needed.
10. Responsible for maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of all banquet rooms, kitchens, and storage areas.
11. Maintains par levels for all inventory as well as completed quarterly inventories for audio visual, china, glassware, linen, silverware, and tables.
PREREQUISITES
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent. College level course work desired. Must be 21 or older. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
EXPERIENCE: Must possess general knowledge of food and beverage and service procedures, generally involving two years as a banquet server, housemen, or manager. Knowledge of beer, wine, liquors, and general food.
PHYSICAL: Must have ability to remain stationary for long periods of up to 10 hours in length. Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Employees will need to possess the skills necessary to perform their job responsibilities associated with the demanding and challenging environment of the service industry.
