Job Description
Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism is actively seeing one-to-one teachers to join our team and work in diverse school districts throughout Nassau and Suffolk County. We are looking for individuals that have worked with children on the autism spectrum, utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and other behavioral interventions to support their development and help them achieve their goals. As a 1:1 consultant teacher you will play a critical role in assessing, managing, and improving challenging behaviors. You will be responsible for implementing behavioral strategies, collaborate with your Behavior Consultant (BCBA), and ensure measurable progress in your student’s development.
As a one-to-one teacher at NSSA, you will have the opportunity to work with students in elementary, middle, or high schools, providing essential support within their assigned classrooms. This position focuses on individualized assistance and personalized attention, ensuring that each student receives the care and guidance they need to thrive academically, behaviorally and personally. This role is primarily a support position, involving close collaboration with the assigned classroom teacher, rather than a traditional front-of-the-room teaching role and is a 12-month position.

Responsibilities:
- Implement and model strategies to de-escalate behaviors and reinforce positive skills.
- Monitor progress through data collection.
- Collaborate with Behavior Consultant, district staff, and families.
- Formal and informal assessment of your assigned student.
- Four-year degree in a related field.
- RBT certification a plus
- New York State Certification in Special Education or Students with Disability a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis principles.
- Experience working with children with autism and addressing challenging behaviors a plus.
- Experience in implementing BIP’s is strongly preferred.
- Requires basic language, written and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
