Job Summary
Nassau’s 10-week, summer internship program in our Hartford, CT office prepares college students for careers on the cutting edge of insurance and asset management. This internship supports Corporate Finance to assist in the preparation and analysis of the Company’s financial statements, including closing the books and preparation of financial statements. The candidate will actively participate in the review and analysis of key financial reporting documents, learn the Company’s accounting processes and procedures, and independently research and document accounting issues while seeing them through to resolution.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in quarterly and annual GAAP and statutory financial reporting and analysis, performing independent research and analysis of variances, trends and unusual transactions
- Support the preparation of quarterly GAAP and statutory financial statement disclosures, ensuring supporting documentation is in line with company policies
- Prepare and record entries, analyze data, and run queries and reports within the General Ledger system (PeopleSoft)
- Prepare account reconciliations (BlackLine) and certify to the accuracy and completeness of financial information
- Assist in managing the quarterly close process, including assisting with preparation and monitoring of the close calendar
- Work closely with and provide support as needed to other areas within the Finance organization and perform other duties as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Applicants should be pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting/Finance with an interest in financial services; CPA preparation a plus but not required
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong PC skills and use of various applications/software (Excel, PeopleSoft)
- Team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Detail-oriented and possess strong decision-making skills
- Able to independently recognize and analyze complex business issues
- Excellent judgement, tact and interpersonal skills
- Strong time management skills and multi-tasking abilities
