POSITION INFORMATION: Performs chemotherapy administration, physician assistance, information gathering, sample collection, patient education, patient follow-up, supply maintenance, and consultation, documentation within EMR.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Chemotherapy Administration. Administers PO, SC injections, chemotherapy drugs, and other medications as ordered by physician.
2. Physician Assistance. Assists physician and other providers as needed. Ensure that all information is available.
3. Information Gathering. Obtains patient histories. Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, mental status, etc. Obtains laboratory results and imaging results and pulls in documentation for encounter, etc.
4. Sample Collection. Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc. Prepares samples for analysis or shipment. Documents collection date and cancels orders or notes in order if given to patient versus transmitted within EMR.
5. Patient Education. Provides educational information to patients, family, etc. pertaining to the administration of chemotherapy. Answers inquiries and provides advice as needed.
6. Patient Follow Up. Answers routine questions from patients, and family. May assist with obtaining referrals, scheduling of radiological studies. etc.
7. Supply Maintenance. Accounts for medical supply stock. Accounts for chemotherapy administering supplies including drug inventory.
8. Consultation. Consults with other medical personnel and may provide expert information about chemotherapy, side effects, etc.
9. As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position such as cleaning infusion chairs in between patients and assisting with restocking as needed.
10. Documentation: Must document all nursing activities clearly in practice EMR (eClinicalWorks) and follow procedures including MIPS documentation within EMR.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Experience: WILL WORK WITH NEW GRADS TO TRAIN.
Certifications/ Licenses: State of California Registered Nurse Certification, BLS, and CPR certification and Chemotherapy Certification (desired but will train and assist with certification)
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities/ and Other Characteristics:
Motivated and willing to learn
Strong Computer Skills including typing ability
Excellent verbal and written Communication skills
Bilingual (Spanish, Armenian, Russian, Hebrew) a plus.
