Position Summary
Assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Provides supportive care to the Emergency Department patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or physician. Performs approved procedures per policy.
2. Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a multidisciplinary team member; supports and assists team members in all activities.
3. Communicates in an effective and efficient manner with all documentation, and with all coworkers, patients, visitors and physicians.
4. Recognizes and reports appropriate data to the Registered Nurse.
5. Assists Registered Nurse and physicians with assessments, examinations, and treatment.
6. Performs and assists with technical skills as defined in scope of practice.
7. Performs other duties as inserviced, including crutch walking, dressing changes and assisting physician with splint or cast application, inserting and removal of Foley Catheter.
8. Adheres to Hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations, and guidelines.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
10. Assists patients from vehicle into wheelchair or onto gurney, as need dictates. Keeps stretchers and equipment clean.
11. Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards.
12. Maintains patient comfort and privacy.
13. Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care, and observations.
14. Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures, at the end of shift wraps ER sets, empties trash, and keeps unit clean and orderly.
15. Assists with preparation of equipment for procedures.
16. Monitors stock and restocks supplies as needed.
17. Uses experience and training to achieve exceptional results; produces work that is thorough; pays attention to detail; work is accurate and neat; demonstrates understanding of his/her work and contributes to overall success; completes full amount of work on time; consistently high competency assessments.
18. Can be counted on to take care of work-related commitments; gives extra effort when needed; can be counted on to do what is expected even when not being watched; reports on time, as scheduled; makes sure duties are covered when absent.

26. Transports patients and supplies.

28. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for ongoing education.
29. Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.

Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Current BLS certification required.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Current EMT certification preferred.
- Previous experience in a medical setting preferred.
