Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities
- Counsels internal clients on various matters, including risk and liability.
- Drafts, negotiates, and reviews service, software licensing, confidentiality, and vendor agreements and related documents.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts searches pursuant to legal requests.
- Handles requests for production to comport with legal obligations.
- Drafts or assists in drafting Amicus Curiae briefs.
- Drafts, reviews, and regularly maintains department and other program policies and procedures.
- Creates and implements risk management strategies for Association programs.
- Researches and analyzes federal and state laws, rules, case law, and other information resources, evaluating applicability, requirements, and risk.
- Manages legal projects in connection with contracts, training, regulatory compliance, and other matters.
- Drafts legal memoranda, opinions, and documents.
Additional Responsibilities
- Fosters and maintains good working relationships and cooperates actively with state boards of pharmacy, outside counsel, Association staff, vendors, and the public.
- Promotes a professional, positive, and supportive work environment.
- Assists in succession planning, including documenting department history/know-how.
- Implements workflow efficiencies for staff.
- Documents and analyzes legal metrics.
- Adheres to and assists in preparing department budget.
- Immediately reports and discusses all unusual circumstances, and all matters that may be contrary to Association policy, with the appropriate supervisor, or the executive director/secretary.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an ABA-approved law school with an active, current Illinois attorney registration in good standing or eligible for an Illinois House Counsel registration.
- Excellent communications, research, analytical, and organizational skills are required.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team to successfully handle multiple responsibilities.
- Must be actively engaged in the practice of law for at least the 3-year period immediately prior to applying for this position. The active practice of law includes client counseling, reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of business contracts such as licensing, software, and service agreements, as well as researching and drafting legal memoranda or legal opinions.
- Must be fluent in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
- Competence in performing legal and Internet research is a must.
- Association, non-profit, or government legal work and/or a healthcare background is desirable but not required.
- 5% travel required.
