What are the responsibilities and job description for the Site Reliability Engineer position at National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)?
The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR), an affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), has an exciting opportunity for a Site Reliability Engineer to join the team. This is a full-time, remote position.
The Site Reliability Engineer works in close collaboration with other NIPR Technical Operations team members to design, build, and support NIPR's Kubernetes platform and other shared cloud infrastructure to meet the demands of NIPR's applications. The ideal candidate possesses a broad technical foundation with one or more specialized areas of expertise. This role is made for those who love problem-solving, have a keen interest in learning new things, and a strong desire to automate repetitive work.
Responsibilities include:
Troubleshoots production issues and participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations
Encourages and builds automated processes wherever possible
Automates IT operations including monitoring, incident response, patching, backups, SOC compliance, etc.
Contributes to general documentation, runbooks, and system designs
Plan, design and execute solutions within infrastructure team to reach specific goals agreed within the team.
Plan and execute configuration change operations both at the application and the infrastructure level.
Collaborates and communicates closely with teammates
Participates in shared after hours and/or weekend on-call rotations as needed
Skills and experience:
Using and provisioning public cloud infrastructure
Managing VPCs (Virtual Private Cloud), security groups, and load balancers
Using version control tools such as Git
CI/CD automation
Strong troubleshooting techniques
In-depth knowledge of networking, security, or performance engineering
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Go, or Python
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Linux system administration
Distributed computing
Using infrastructure as code and/or configuration management tools
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or associates in applied science specific to computer science and one to three years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Preferred experience:
Preferred Kubernetes experience
Compensation:
$83,846 to $115,000, to be commensurate with experience and education
