Position Summary

The Engagement Coordinator (Temporary) will work closely with the Great Lakes chapter and volunteer network (including stewards, monitors, chapters, and partner organizations) to assist the Engagement Manager with the implementation of volunteer strategies as a key component to sustainable Great Lakes habitat conservation across Audubon's priority geographies. They will directly engage and communicate, remotely or in-person, with chapters and volunteers supporting conservation efforts across the five-state region including IL, IN, MI, OH, and WI. This position will play a critical role in growing chapter and volunteer engagement with Audubon’s conservation across the Great Lakes region by reaching broader audiences and building community connections through network activities.

The Engagement Coordinator will assist the Engagement Manager and collaborate cross-functionally with the Conservation Team, Communications Team, as well as Policy Team in connecting chapters and volunteers to habitat restoration, conservation science, and advocacy efforts across priority Great Lakes geographies. The Engagement Coordinator will primarily focus on program management support that includes community science, advocacy, and network activities to uplift the work of the Great Lakes chapters and volunteers. The Engagement Coordinator will work closely with fellow Engagement team members to support the Audubon network of chapters and members to build their capacity and connect to conservation priorities in the region. This role will include a moderate amount of travel time and fieldwork that may increase as the role progresses.

This is a remote role based in the Audubon Great Lakes Region. 

Compensation:

Hourly range based on geo-differentials:

  • $17.00-$19.00 / hour = National

  • $19.00-$21.00 / hour = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Document engagement work to produce series of blog posts by interviewing chapter leaders on their volunteer leadership and initiatives that impact their communities.

  • Create the Great Lakes network report that demonstrates chapter and volunteer impact in the region that compiles data and information from a wide range of sources.

  • Support in-person and virtual planning of events and trainings for the Great Lakes network.

  • Assist with state-based engagement that includes chapter-based councils and programs including advocacy

  • Maintain an updated database of chapters and volunteers in Audubon systems including digital files and Every Action

  • Partner cross-functionally with Conservation, Communications, and Engagement staff to document and exact engagement initiatives.

  • Develop and disseminate materials, resources, and tools to ensure that chapters and volunteers have what they need to engage with Audubon.

  • Represent Audubon’s mission, programs, and resources at meetings, trainings, and events with a focus on volunteer development and engagement.

  • Partner with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work. 

  • Other job-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, ecology, natural resource management or related field.

  • 1-2 years of experience in supporting event planning, volunteer management, coordination with stakeholders, and general nonprofit administration.

  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving experience.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally on diverse teams with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

  • Ability to implement anti-racist practices in all aspects of work.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong oral, and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, including the ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences.

  • Must be comfortable interacting with the public and staff of multiple partner organizations.

  • Ability to maintain contact databases with attention to detail.

  • Interest and ability to learn conservation science and management practices is required.

  • Cultural competency across equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging is required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point.

  • Ability to learn new digital systems and software.              

  • Valid U.S. driver's license and the ability to travel throughout the Great Lakes region. Reliable transportation is required.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
