Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Government Affairs, the Senior Coordinator, Government Affairs will be part of a growing team working across the political spectrum to advance Audubon’s federal policy priorities, including climate solutions and habitat protections essential for birds and people. The Senior Coordinator will work closely with the leadership of the Government Affairs team in raising awareness among decision makers on the importance of bird conservation and related policy solutions. Following Audubon’s strategic plan, this person will help support the implementation of the Healthy Birds Healthy Planet policy agenda that weaves together ambitious goals to “bend the bird curve” by seeking to tackle climate change, create an environment in which birds thrive, and create healthy communities for birds and people.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and team player, a strong project manager with an ability to juggle myriad tasks, and possess a deep commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging values.

Compensation:

$60,000 - $70,000 / year

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Support Government Affairs and federal policy table in regular communications with key policy makers to complement DC and/or in-district activities.

  • Coordinate decision maker outreach and engagement activities, including Capitol Hill/in-district bird outings, lunch and learns, briefings and events on and off the Capitol Hill.

  • Produce outreach materials, including but not limited to fact sheets, memos, talking points and letters that clearly communicate Audubon’s policy priorities and recommendations.

  • Assist in preparing meeting materials for VP and Sr. Dir. of Government Affairs including printing documents, collecting supporting documentation and researching background information.

  • Support the Government Affairs team in Quorum usage, including monitoring lawmaker activities and communications, coordinating Audubon response and engagement, and tracking lawmaker engagement and legislative actions.

  • Stay informed about major projects and current priorities as they relate to the government affairs goals, strategies and tactics.

  • Organize meetings with internal stakeholders as well as outside organizations and partners.

  • Help assist in the maintenance of department administrative systems – (ie. Quorum, Box, Asana)

  • Partner with Audubon colleagues to ensure that Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Conservation Principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work. 

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, natural resources or related field.

  • Three to five years’ experience in government relations, policy, or conservation advocacy. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that can be adapted to reach a wide range of individuals and used to build consensus.  Ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent attention to detail, time-management and organizational skills, and sound judgment.

  • Self-starter with a strong collaborative work ethic and ability to work independently.

  • Experience working with multigenerational audiences and diverse cultural communities and a commitment to increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion as a core component of our work.

  • A willingness to travel in-state and be comfortable with working occasional evenings and weekends

  • High proficiency with MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint; knowledge with Quorum a plus.
