POSITION OVERVIEW: The Associate, Social Media, will serve as an integral part of the Brand Communications team, executing the NBPA’s social strategy aligned with the Union’s mission, vision, and values. The role will primarily support the social content and digital community management needs of the NBPA, Think450 and the NBPA Foundation. The right candidate will be a key contributor, collaborating across the organization and gaining hands-on experience in brand storytelling, content creation, social strategy and more.
LOCATION: New York City, NY
REPORTS TO: Sr. Director, Brand Communications
SALARY: $80,000 – $100,000 (compensation commensurate with experience)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to independently execute content planning, content creation, and community management for NBPA social media channels.
- Aid in the development of brand voice and tone to be used across NBPA social media channels for ongoing Community Engagement
- Digital Asset Management – Organize and archive key assets for the NBPA brand communications team, including photos, videos, graphics, etc.
- Track and analyze the performance of social media efforts, providing reports and insights to measure success and identify areas for improvement
- Stay at the pulse of basketball culture, the NBA calendar and player news to ensure the NBPA plays a leading and active role in driving online basketball narratives
- Partner with the Sr. Director of Brand Communications to drive social strategy for key branded programs, including the NBPA Top 100 Camp, The Sanctuary, One Court and Think450 brand partner activations, as well as the NBPA’s involvement at NBA tentpole events such as the NBA Draft and NBA Summer League
- Utilize tools such as Dash Hudson, Meltwater, and Greenfly to execute social media tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to multi-task on multiple projects and work under tight timelines
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience in social media and managing channels
- Experienced admin user of the various social media platforms with an understanding of what works for each platform
- Good understanding of social media analytical tools
- Must have a pulse on current and emerging social media platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky, TikTok and Snapchat
- Ability to capture still and video content (from handheld device) at NBPA owned events required; experience briefing and managing external content creators preferred
- Passion for basketball and expert knowledge of current NBA players
- Basic video editing, photo retouching and graphic design skills are a huge plus
- Ability to travel and work occasional nights/weekends for events required
