OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the Laboratory’s Quality Assurance and Safety programs along with maintaining close working relationships with other department managers and supervisory personnel to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting testing quality, maximize productivity, and comply with regulatory requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Work shifts: some flexibility in the hours required to work may be required (Monday-Friday 2 weeks per month/ Tuesday-Saturday 2 weeks per month)
- Advanced computer skills and experience with computer programs such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); position will be required to learn blood bank specific software
- Ability to work in a variety of physical environments
- Ability to train coworkers to perform a task
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations and voluntary accrediting standards related to the operation of clinical laboratories and blood banks
- Scientific and technical knowledge from current sources, such as the AABB and EU standards and relevant guidance’s related to FDA, CLIA and CMA, both state and federal
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple assignments concurrently
- Ability to effectively participate in a stress-filled and time-critical team environment
- Ability to analyze, think critically and make decisions consistent with SOP and regulatory standards
- Excellent writing skills, SOP design and writing experience a plus
- Previous work experience demonstrating decision making ability, ability to effectively communicate with and positively influence people, familiarity with fiscal operations, supervisory responsibility, conflict resolution, and customer service
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Excellent communication skills and ability to conduct oral presentations
- Excellent people skills which extend to a diverse group of individuals and demographics
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution (Required)
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 2 years of previous supervisory experience, knowledge of Quality Management Systems commonly used in industry (Required)
Minimum of 3 years of previous quality assurance, blood banking and/or laboratory experience (Required)
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
ASCP, MT, MLT, MLS (Preferred)

You will be required to comply with governmental regulations and strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures, and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and staff.
You will be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.
