The National Building Museum educates, entertains, and engages people about the built environment and challenges them to advocate for a sustainable and equitable future.

Position Description

The Museum Educators (Part time) will be part of the National Building Museum’s vision to offer curriculum, programs and experiences that educate and inspire future generations of building industry professionals and community leaders. These programs include, but are not limited to, school field trips, Girl Scout programs, birthday parties, and festivals. Under the direction of the Manager, Youth & Community Programs, Museum Educators are energetic, collaborative, and extremely organized individuals who facilitate the execution of education programs.

 

The Museum Educator must be available to work the following schedules (24 hours per week*):

  1. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 8:30am-2:30pm and Sundays 8:30am-4:30pm

 

*Additional opportunities beyond scheduled hours up to 35 hours may be available program-depending.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and delivers on-site youth engagement and education programs.
  • Uses knowledge of the principles, and practices pertaining to museum education and interpretive practices, in hands-on, inquiry-driven, and mission-driven learning experiences.
  • Present high-quality education and engagement programming and effectively manage instructional materials, including pre- and post- visit as needed.
  • Document each program.
  • Assist with rewriting programs based on visitor feedback.
  • Maintain educational spaces and supply inventory.
  • Effectively applies organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Attend all training and learn new lesson content as needed.
  • Answer visitor questions over email, phone, and in-person.

Qualifications


  • Previous experience facilitating activities for children is required (experience in program delivery within a museum or gallery setting preferred)
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with groups in a public setting while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to adapt quickly and think creatively
  • Must pass a background check

ADA Specifications

  • This is an active work position that requires the ability to move about the Museum frequently and to position oneself to interact and communicate appropriately with visitors.
  • Employee may be responsible for moving objects of up to 20 lbs. when needed.
